Part-Time Payroll Specialist

Controlled Holdings, an ‘Indiana Best Places to Work’ (11 times… but who’s counting) and an award-winning distributor of HVAC controls, is currently seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial part-time Payroll Specialist to join our growing People Ops team.  

As a Part-Time Payroll Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring smooth and accurate payroll processing. You’ll manage weekly payroll, generate necessary reports, and collaborate with our Custom Controls team on government jobs, requiring certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance. We expect this role to average around 15-20 hours a week.

Details, Details:

  • Process weekly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate data for all Custom Controls employees, including hourly and salaried staff 
  • Manage payroll for government contracts, adhering to certified payroll requirements and prevailing wage laws 
  • Generate and distribute regular payroll reports to the HR and finance departments 
  • Assist in the management of employee timesheets, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining accurate records 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax filings and garnishments 
  • Keep the HRIS system (UKG) updated with employee payroll information and any changes in employment status 

What we are looking for:

  • General understanding of payroll processes and regulations, including tax laws and payroll reporting. 
  • Prior experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage for government contracts is a bonus. 
  • Background in payroll, accounting, administration or finance. 
  • Ability to manage detailed information, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in payroll processing. 
  • Proficient in using HRIS systems (UKG), payroll software, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Ability to resolve payroll-related issues and respond to employee inquiries with a solutions-oriented mindset. 
  • Enthusiastic team player who is highly collaborative and willing to contribute to the company culture.
